Classifications of Scissor Lifts & Aerial Lift Platforms
Scissor lifts consist of a series of crisscrossed steel arms, connected to make an X pattern. When the crisscrossed arms are extended, the platform is raised vertically. There are support railings along the edges of the lifting mechanism to be able to keep the workers safe and help to secure their tools.
Scissor lifts offer a low profile which is ideal for concrete, pavement and hard dirt surfaces. These machines utilize either an electric motor or a combustion engine to be able to power the lifting apparatus and move the lift. The operator must move the lift itself if he or she has to travel horizontally, since the lift apparatus only operates the lift in a vertical way.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
The standard scissor lift and the rough terrain scissor lift use the same lifting technology. The main difference is that the rough terrain units feature a different base that is particularly designed for uneven surfaces. These models also provide oversized all terrain tires and higher ground clearance. The rough terrain scissor lifts use 4-wheel drive so as to easily navigate through difficult and muddy terrain.
Telescopic Boom Lift
Telescopic booms are designed to be raised both vertically and diagonally. This model has a small work platform which houses controls to be able to operate the boom. The controls work with a combustion engine in order to power the hydraulics which move the lift and power the boom. The telescopic boom lift is an independent lift unit and has off-road capable tires.
Articulating Boom Lift
There are two telescopic booms on the articulating boom lift. These are attached with a moving elbow mechanism. This lifting machine has a small work platform or a bucket that is outfitted with hand controls in order to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts that are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are offered with either hard surface or off-road tires. These lifts are made to be able to reach on top of and over top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
The aerial mast lift utilizes a telescopic mast so as to raise a work platform vertically into the air. Typically, these lifts are electrically powered or pneumatic powered and are self-propelled machinery. These machines provide an excellent solution for working in high racks within narrow warehouse aisles. It is essential to remember that aerial mast lifts are not recommended for off-road use and are limited to vertical movement.
During 1966, Bud Bushnell founded Genie Industries. During that time, he purchased the manufacturing rights to a material lift that functioned on compressed air. The name Genie originated from the "magic in the bottle" which was utilized to raise and lower the hoist. This mechanism really impressed lots of clients and therefore, the name was born.
Genie expanded operations and established itself into different new markets, as the need for platforms and work lifts grew. Over time, as the requirements for new equipment to meet many applications grew, the company made itself recognized in many new markets. For example, Genie went into making light towers, man-lifts, articulated booms, stick booms and telehandlers.
Due to the economic slump in the beginning of the 2000s, Genie decided to acquire a partner who had the same values. They partnered up with Terex Corporation. This company has a history obtaining equipment manufacturers all over the world who proved to be a good business match. Genie Industries was sold in 2002 and became a part of Terex Corporation.
Due to the Genie name and its solid reputation in the workplace, it was determined to maintain the Genie brand name as part of the Terex Aerial Work Platforms. This was just decided after the first few years following the sale. Thus, all Genie machinery continue to be sold under the Genie brand.
Genie takes pride in listening to their clients. The company is devoted to continually improving efficiency and quality and is also committed to lessening waste. Even long after the sale has been closed, the company focuses on providing exceptional support. These are the very work practices that have made Genie a trusted brand name over the last decades and continue to keep their reputation for top-of-the-line and quality equipment.
The DC and Bi-Energy machinery offered by Genie provide emission-free, quiet operation even in the most delicate work environments. Where the machinery must be driven significant distances, like for instance within industrial situations, the Genie bi-energy system combines the power of a diesel-powered generator with the benefits of a 48V DC equipment.
Telescopic booms provide more horizontal reach, as opposed to any of the different aerial platforms. These machinery are great for small areas or limited access areas in all kinds of settings. The Genie Telescopic S booms have been designed to provide utmost productivity. These equipment provide supreme traction and the drive speed\the drive speed and supreme traction you need to be able to travel around the job area and work site.
